故園東望路漫漫，
雙袖龍鐘淚不乾。
馬上相逢無紙筆，
憑君傳語報平安。

Looking east towards my old home, 
the road stretching on and on,
I can no longer dry my tears ‒
the sleeves of my robe are soaked through.
We meet, two riders on the road, 
but I have no paper or pen,
So I ask you kindly to let them know 
that I am safe and well.
